Snip Your Knits: Steek with Confidence!

Does the thought of taking scissors to your freshly-knit project fill you with dread? Steeking might seem intimidating but there’s no need to fear! In this class, you’ll gain the knowledge you need to confidently snip your knits. Steeking is a useful and versatile skill that no knitter should be without. By taking this class, you’ll learn both the crochet and hand-sewn reinforcement methods of performing a steek. The more times you do it, the less scary it gets! So, armed with your favorite pair of scissors, be prepared to cut your class project to bits!

  • your homework,
  • 1 fingering weight yarn in a high contrasting color to your homework. When choosing the yarn, choose a yarn that is non-superwash pure wool or 90% wool blend. Non-animal fibers such as cotton and acrylic are not appropriate for this class.
  • crochet hook size G-6 (4mm) or E-4 (3.5mm)
  • a sharp sewing or tapestry needle that you can thread the fingering weight yarn through
  • your favorite sharp scissors!


There is homework for this class. Homework will be sent in an email along with class handouts.

Skills Needed:

Participants should be familiar with the following techniques: knit/purl, cast on/bind off, working in the round, advanced stranded colorwork, beginner crochet
